Russian regions should follow St. Petersburg in energy saving. This is the conclusion reached by the experts on Smarteka, a platform developed by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives

According to St. Petersburg governor Aleksander Beglov, in 2020, Smarteka was interested in the concierge service created in St. Petersburg to support system-forming enterprises.
"And we have also posted another project on Smarteka, a methodology for evaluating district energy saving efforts," the mayor said. “Energy consumption in St. Petersburg has been shrinking. This saves government funds. The city's achievements were noticed and praised at the federal level. “

Who is in the lead?

2020 turned out to be a difficult year, and this has affected the energy saving indicators. The best results were achieved by those who managed to save on heating and lighting of unused houses, such as, schools and offices closed due to the pandemic. Automatic heat consumption control devices help here: they change the inside temperature depending on the outside temperature. The more organizations had such sensors installed, the higher is the rating.

Companies with consumption limits showed good results. Such organizations are willing to use energy-saving lamps and motion sensor lamps that go out when there are no people in the room.

In 2020, the top savers included Kalininsky, Kirovsky and Petrogradsky districts.

"There were no special awards for the top performers, but the heads of districts with the best indicators will receive a good reference from the city authorities," Ekaterina Bordukova, press secretary of the SPbGBU Center for Energy Saving, said in an interview to St. Petersburg Diary.

"I am happy that other regions can use our experience. We also use Smarteka to monitor foreign developments and look for ways to apply them here," Oleg Tsinkovich, the author of the development, Head of the Information and Analytical Sector of the Committee on Energy and Engineering Support, said.

Mentor Region
It is worth noting that Smarteca was developed by the Russian Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI). Its representative Margarita Nazarenko said that St. Petersburg has posted various projects on Smarteka. Interestingly, in 2020 and 2021, 30 requests were received for their replication, that is, dissemination. 13 of them have already been implemented. Now St. Petersburg is in the top 3 of the Smarteka rating as a mentor region.

"ASI employees and the regional team will help to land these practices in different regions," Margarita Nazarenko explained.
